HUMANTAY LAKE

Humantay Lake Hike

Description:

Located in the Vilcabamba mountain rage, at the base of Humantay mountain, there is a stunning lake by the same name, at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level –– the second highest in the Cusco region –– which in recent years has become a popular destination for hikers visiting southern Peru (Source: Agencia Andina).

With its mystic air, the lake is visited by shaman and tourists from around the world in order to leave offerings to Pachamama, the deity representing Mother Earth in the Incan culture.

Through the laying of stones, an offering is given to Pachamama, thanking her for having assisted us in successfully reaching the lagoon and asking her to accompany us on our journey.

Lake Humantay’s stunning landscape, brilliant colors, and sheer immensity makes it a must-see tourist destinations in Peru.

To get to this glacial lagoon, you will travel from Cusco city to the town of Soraypampa, located 3920 meters above sea level and near the spectacular Salkantay mountain. Prepare to be amazed by the panoramic view of the turquoise lake, which sits before an frosted glacier.

This experience is made all the sweeter by the 3 hour round trip hike through the high Andes, where multicolored landscapes, local cultivation, and snowy mountains meet in perfect harmony.
