The Tipon Archeological Complex is located 25 kilometers outside of Cusco. According to legend, Tipon is one of the royal gardens that Wiracocha, an Incan ruler, ordered to have built. It consists of twelve terraces flanked by perfectly polished stone walls, platforms, canals, and waterfalls, which, combined with the local flora, make this an extraordinary landscape.
Translating to “The City of Fleas,” Piquillacta is one of the most significant sites of the Wari civilization, which flourished between 500-1000 AD. This complex was used by the Wari to defend their land and to store harvested crops.
Nearby, we will visit Lake Huacarpay, which serves as a refuge for various threatened animal species, where we will take time to enjoy the scenery and regional cuisine in the surrounding restaurants.
Home to the San Pedro Church of Andahuaylillas, which was constructed at the beginning of the 17th century. Known as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas, its interior is adorned with golden altars, silver jewelry, and paintings and murals from the Cusco school of art. The church’s beauty extends to its plaza, which is surrounded by Pisonay trees. A few kilometers further, we stop at the town of Huaro, where the sorcerers of the Inca period resided.
