The network of Incan trail is one of the most extraordinary feats of engineering in the world. By the 16th century, it had helped transform a small kingdom into the largest empire in the Western Hemisphere.
To the envy of modern engineers, substantial stretches of the 39,000 km network survive to this day, uniting hundreds of communities across Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. Incredibly, it was built entirely by hand, with no iron or wheeled transport to assist.
The Inca Trail is the most famous in America and provides an unforgettable experience. Well preserved Incan archaeological sites between the jungle and puna mountains serve as a reminder of the untamed nature where the Incas made their pilgrimage to the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu.
